I guess it just had to happen eventually
but why in my mailbox?

Today has been borderline miserable. I woke with a headache and it has continued to mid-afternoon (so far). My blood sugar was off again at 305 (16.9). After no breakfast and a very light lunch, 500mg metformin and 70cc of insulin (not the 35cc prescribed) it is a perfectly acceptable 113 (6.2). Why do I still feel crappy?

I have not been doing much on the computer today. Until the last hour or so, my vision just wouldn't let me. Instead I have been watching season 1, episodes 1-4 of Dexter. This leads me inevitably to the question, who the hell is Michael C. Hall and why am I just now hearing about him and this show? The short answer is: I didn't watch Six Feet Under. I may have to get that from Netflix and see if I have been missing something. I'm not sure I'm up to five seasons on DVD of anything however.

My fascination with Dexter (and I confess to an intense liking of this show) is a bit worrisome to me. The last time I fell in love with a serial killer, I got introduced at a wedding as "… the guy on which Hannibal Lecter was based." Really. I'm not sure why I find such characters fascinating. Am I in touch with my inner cannibal? Do I have a suppressed urge to slay discriminately?

Do me a favour… if you notice a pattern to hideous deaths in my neighbourhood, don't call the local police — talk to me first.

Today's picture is a reference to a grotesque spam attack that has been going on for the last couple of days. I finally located (about an hour ago) the cookie that was doing it. I have inoculated the Hell out of my machine and hope all the spam is at an end. My determination to get a Mac is getting stronger and stronger. <sigh>Of course, I suppose I'll do that just as the number of Mac users gets large enough to interest the hacker community.</sigh>

The Mac is close, but getting farther away. I have almost enough money to make room for it on my credit card. Unfortunately, the lamp in my projector (the only TV I have) is about to go out and replacement is around $400. In addition, Sis is likely to have surgery this month and that will cost her co-pay plus an indeterminate amount of other expenses due to the larcenous and malicious nature of her insurance coverage.

I still hope to have a Mac by the end of March. I don't know if I'll really like the Mac, but I think the experiment is worth it. I really have come to dislike everything about the world of Windows and the only viable alternative for me is a Mac. I can't do all the things I do on a computer under linux or UNIX and as the computer is the major focus of my life these days I will not cut my usage down to browsing and entering text. I will lose some of my games under Mac but viable substitutes should be there. I also feel that a Mac will extend the number of years I'll be able to use a computer. It is not really much more accessible than a PC, but the accessibility features are much more integrated and are likely, in my opinion, to improve on the Mac and not on the PC.

The afternoon has turned productive. In a sudden burst of energy I managed to write today's poem and add four recipes to my website. These recipes (about 100 of them) have been hanging about literally for years waiting to be typed in and uploaded. I hope to get to most of them relatively soon. Sadly, once I do I will have to reformat my site substantially and add some kind of a search. The present layout is fine for the small number of recipes I now have, but the additions are already starting to make it a bit unwieldy.

Today's poem is at my website and in louderpoetry. Yesterday I added an entry to louderprose as an accompaniment to yesterday's poem but forgot to mention it. You saw it in the freewriting section.

Recipes added today: Thai Pork with Peanut Sauce, Carne Asada Tacos, Cajun Crabmeat Au Gratin, and Cajun Style Burgers.
