I have had a very rough couple of days. I've been feeling extremely disconnected, dissociated, depersonalized. I have been, for all of that, fairly productive in terms of poetry.
My writing is on an upswing due, perhaps, to the discovery of Inkwell Manor Scribes, a "Virtual Home for Aspiring Writers". The place is basically a bulletin board. I am enjoying the community there and recommend it to writers of poetry or prose who want a place to hang out where you can get (non-professional) critiques of your efforts. My friend the Mighty Ed has joined and will be participating in some of the "efforts" I am pondering. We are pondering, actually. The site has a good assortment of poetry for those who are interested. There are also some interesting interactive fiction things going on. I have hopes for the place.
Billy linked an article having something to do with writing and stirred me up for a while yesterday. Some moronic High School student wrote a vulgar little bit of trash posing as a cautionary tale against wet dreams and got "Baker Acted" (or whatever the equivalent law was for his state) for his trouble. The full tale of his incarceration and subsequent release reveals that he had written a "fantasy" in which he kills his obnoxious teacher. For this, the kid was put in a mental institution and forced to vindicate himself (he did) without the school bothering to talk to him, send him to a school counselor, or even call his mother. Need I say "zero tolerance" equals "zero thought"? The brat should be paddled for his potty mouth and the bad manners of thinly veiled threats in a school venue. Institutionalizing him was simply vile.
