Diary of a Blind Madman

tales about my past
nanowrimo 2010

I lie about my secrets

I've wandered out at midnight
and danced right down the stairs
and wakened in the evening
with flowers in my hair.

I tell you all my secrets,
but lie about my youth
and each and every secret
contains a grain of truth.

I've stood upon the cliff's edge
and watched the eagles glide
while I leaned into the wind
and threw my arms out wide.

I've danced in fancy ballrooms,
in back of dingy bars,
danced out in the parking lot
and gone to sleep in cars.

I've shared my every secret
but lied throughout the course
to hide the face of my life -
its quiet, dark, remorse

So when you think about me
think on my clever tales
and fondly think on good times -
my laugh that never fails.

Thank you. It's good to know that I'm not the only one who finds that there's a difference between the life you pretend you lead and the life you really lead. It's not bad at the moment for me, but at times there has been a gaping chasm between the two. And the pretend life is always so much better than the real one, isn't it?

We all live our our lives in different ways, but one thing we have in common is that we all choose to present a "persona" to the world that differs from the real one. Though "real" begs description, or at least explication, for I find it often enough that someone lives the "lie" to the point where it becomes the truth.

In the grand scheme of things, I think what we wish to be is achieved through what we pretend we are, not through what we hide.
