No Race

I wish I was in New Orleans
I wish I had my land of dreams
I want to walk the midnight streets
And hear the sound of dancing feet.

I want to fly above a cloud
And sing a song of joy aloud
I'd like to see my dreams come true
And start my life refreshed, renewed.

In places where no other lives
Surcease is all that silence gives
In crowded places all alone
I wait until the other's gone

No better life awaits ahead
No sudden joy, no savage dread
Day to day and on and one
No race is run, no race is won.
