Bulwer-Lytton

I'm planning on entering the following in this year's Bulwer-Lytton contest. Care to help me make this opening still worse?

Sans the surreptitious screeching of the wind there was no sound save the hiss of sand against the stones, the thrum of electric wires, the wind-whipped plashing of the pond against its concrete barrier and some scraping of tree limbs against the temple walls which enclosed kneeling, keening monks, who over their chanting, heard none of these sounds.
