How deep is my mayo?

I've discovered something a bit disheartening. For some time I have been purchasing condimentia in squeeze bottles. Catsup, mustard, horseradish, mayo, you name it. Recently, a big jar of mayo has made its way into my kitchen (how is a long story not worth recounting). I can't tell the difference between a full jar and an empty one save by weight. When I dip in a spoon or knife, I can't tell (even by feel) when I have reached a level that fills my spoon. This means I wind up dipping air onto my BLT or reaching down to the bottom and bringing up a cup of mayo at a time. Frustrating. It seems that the obvious solution is to use my fingers. Probably not something my guests would approve.
